The water-cooled bearing seat system is a key device that uses circulating water to remove the heat generated by the operation of bearings, ensuring that bearings work at suitable temperatures. It is commonly used in high-speed rotating equipment such as motors, fans, pumps, etc. The malfunction not only affects the cooling effect, but may also cause bearing overheating and damage. The following are common faults and solutions:
1、 Blockage of cooling water circuit
common reasons
Poor water quality, impurities (sediment, rust) or scale deposits in pipelines and cooling chambers;
Long term uncleanliness leads to the growth of microorganisms or algae in the cooling channel (especially in open systems);
The sealing material at the water pipe interface has fallen off, blocking the water flow channel.
solution
Pipeline cleaning: Disassemble the inlet and outlet, rinse the cooling chamber in reverse with high-pressure water to remove impurities; When the scale is severe, citric acid or professional descaling agent can be added to the circulating water in proportion, and after circulating for 1-2 hours, it can be thoroughly drained and rinsed;
Microbial treatment: For open systems, regularly add bactericidal and algicidal agents (such as sodium hypochlorite) to control biological growth;
Check the sealing components: replace the aging sealing gasket or tape to prevent debris from entering the waterway, and ensure that the interface is flat and free of foreign objects during installation.
2、 Leakage or seepage
common reasons
The water-cooled bearing seat body casting has sand holes and cracks (caused by casting defects or long-term vibration);
Loose inlet and outlet pipe joints, or aging or wear of sealing rings (such as O-rings);
The joint surface between the bearing seat and the end cover is uneven, and the sealant is unevenly applied or ineffective.
solution
Body repair: Minor sand holes can be sealed with epoxy resin adhesive; If the crack does not affect the structural strength, it can be repaired by drilling anti crack holes and welding (the cast iron material needs to be preheated to prevent cracking), and in severe cases, the bearing seat can be replaced;
Joint sealing: Tighten the water pipe joint again, replace the temperature and water resistant sealing ring (recommended nitrile rubber or fluororubber material), and wrap the joint with raw material tape to enhance the sealing;
Joint surface treatment: Clean the oil and rust stains on the joint surface, apply high-temperature resistant sealant (such as silicone sealant) evenly again, tighten the fixing bolts according to the specified torque, and ensure a tight fit.
3、 Insufficient cooling effect (high bearing temperature)
common reasons
Insufficient circulating water flow (insufficient power of water pump, incomplete opening of pipeline valves, clogged filters);
The inlet water temperature is too high (insufficient heat dissipation of the cooling tower, excessive temperature of the cooling water source);
The cooling chamber design of the bearing seat is unreasonable (narrow flow channels, too many dead corners, slow water flow velocity);
Poor heat exchange between the waterway and the bearing seat (such as excessive scaling on the inner wall of the cooling chamber, resulting in decreased thermal conductivity).
solution
Increase flow rate: Check the working condition of the water pump and replace the high-power water pump if necessary; Clean the filter element and ensure that the valve is fully open; If the pipeline is too long, an auxiliary booster pump can be added;
Reduce the inlet water temperature: check whether the cooling tower fan and packing are normal, and clean the impurities in the cooling tower water tank; If using tap water, ensure that the inlet water temperature does not exceed 35 ℃ (adjusted according to equipment requirements);
Optimize heat exchange: Regularly remove scale (refer to the "waterway blockage" treatment method) to remove the scale layer on the inner wall of the cooling chamber; For old equipment, the flow channel can be modified (such as adding deflectors) to reduce dead corners and increase water flow velocity.
4、 Abnormal vibration or noise of the bearing seat
common reasons
The bearing itself has faults (wear, lack of oil, installation deviation), but the vibration is exacerbated due to poor cooling;
Resonance between water cooling system and equipment (such as water pump vibration transmitted to bearing seat, or unstable pipeline fixation);
The cooling water flow rate is too fast, causing water hammer effect on the inner wall of the bearing seat.
solution
Bearing inspection: Stop the machine and disassemble the bearing, check whether the rollers and raceways are worn, supplement or replace the lubricating grease (pay attention to compatibility with the cooling medium), and recalibrate the bearing installation clearance;
Vibration reduction fixation: Install rubber soft connections between the water pump and the pipeline, and add vibration reduction pads to the pipeline bracket; Adjust the tightness of the fixing bolts of the bearing seat to avoid resonance with the equipment frame;
Control water flow rate: By adjusting the opening of the inlet valve, the flow rate is controlled within a reasonable range (usually 1-3m/s, refer to the equipment manual for details) to avoid excessive water flow impact.
5、 Corrosion of water quality causes damage to the bearing seat
common reasons
Abnormal pH value of circulating water (excessive acidity or alkalinity, corrosion of metal materials);
Excessive levels of chloride ions and sulfates in water (especially when seawater or groundwater is used as a water source);
The system has not undergone anti-corrosion treatment, and the metal surface has oxidized and rusted. The rust residue blocks the waterway and exacerbates wear.
solution
Water quality regulation: Regularly check the pH value of circulating water and maintain it between 7-9 (neutral to weakly alkaline). Acidic water can be neutralized by adding sodium carbonate, and if the alkalinity is too strong, an appropriate amount of organic acid can be added;
Anti corrosion treatment: Apply anti-corrosion coating to the inner wall of the bearing seat (such as galvanizing or coating with epoxy resin); Add corrosion inhibitors (such as phosphates and molybdates) to circulating water to form a protective film;
Water source optimization: Avoid using high salt water directly, and install water quality filters or softening devices if necessary to reduce the content of corrosive ions.
Daily maintenance suggestions
Check the inlet and outlet water pressure, temperature, and flow rate weekly to ensure they are within the specified range of the equipment;
Clean the filter every month, check the condition of the sealing ring, and replenish or replace the coolant;
Conduct waterway cleaning and water quality testing once a quarter to promptly address scale and corrosion issues;
Thoroughly drain the water circuit during shutdown to avoid microbial growth caused by low-temperature freezing or prolonged standing.
Through targeted troubleshooting and regular maintenance, the failure of the water-cooled bearing seat system can be effectively reduced, and the service life of the equipment can be extended.
